Dr. Zheng grew up in China during the Cultural Revolution and considers herself lucky to have had a childhood free of the rigours of a highly competitive education system. Her early amibition was to be a novelist but she studied biology to please her parents. After moving to the USA for graduate school, she developed a real love for biology and has been studying it ever since.
About this speaker
Dr. Zheng studied biology as an undergraduate in China before moving to Ohio State University to do her PhD. She did a post-doc at the University of California, San Francisco where she began many years of research on cell division. Currently, Zheng is a Staff Member in the Department of Embryology at the Carnegie Institution of Science, an HHMI Investigator and an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins University.
